Safe Title and
Action Safe specifications

Wide screen television has brought many challenges to today's productions, one of which is how to place titles on the screen so everyone can see them.

Nearly all production for TV these days is in wide screen or 16x9 format, but there are still many people who haven't made the switch to a new wide screen tv. Because of this, production houses still have to take this into consideration and ensure that all titles can be seen on all tv's in all formats.

What you'll see on analogue TV is different to what you'll see on digital TV.

On Air Ratios
If you're watching digital TV then chances are your looking at wide screen (16x9) pictures. If you're watching analogue TV then your looking at 4x3 pictures.

The networks in Australia deal with analogue differently. Channel 10 and 9 keep the full height of the frame and discard the edges. Channel 7 and the ABC split the difference and broadcast 14x9. They chop a little of the edges and letterbox, or add a black band top and bottom in effect shrinking the image down to partially.
